The Active Backup for Business (ABB) Agent is the software that automatically backs up data on your PC (e.g. desktop, documents, C: drive) to the Synology NAS. Sometimes due to a configuration change or certificate expiration, the ABB Agent stops trusting the NAS certificate. To ensure data security, ABB will not perform backups using an un-trusted certificate, so the user needs to manually accept the updated certificate to resume the automatic backup tasks.

First, open the Active Backup for Business Agent:

Click Start

Scroll down to Synology, click to expand the folder, then click on Active Backup for Business Agent. (You could instead search for "Active Backup" and open the app from the search results)

Once the ABB Agent window has opened, you should see an error similar to the screenshot below.


Click Trust Certificate.

Note: if you see the following warning, click Proceed anyway. This may appear because the backups are configured to use the VPN connection, which is more secure, but causes this warning.

You may need to click Proceed anyway a second time, if another warning box pops up.


If everything is working correctly, you should see a green checkmark, and the backups should proceed as scheduled.
